OPIUM 2003
“Opium” is a project created for a specific location and consists of two football goals back to back on a green, at the intersection between a golf course and the Montenmedio forests. The goals are connected by a handmade net using coloured thread. The net gives the effect of a tunnel measuring some thirteen metres in length between the two goals.
“Opium” is conceived as a metaphor through which spaces which are in permanent conflict unite and find harmony in a paradoxical process. The metaphorical tunnel acts as a connecting link between two types of vegetation: the golf green, manmade and intrinsically artificial, and the forest which grows wild, following the course of nature. The intention is to find an ideal intersection between the two, exploring the antagonism and destroying the borders between one and the other.
