The work “The Hero” presents an iconographic image of the artist riding a white horse in the countryside while carrying a large white flag. Neither she nor the horse move and a voice-over is heard singing and humming a popular Yugoslavian song dedicated to the conquered hero. The important presence of horses in Montenmedio and the charisma of its proprietor, Antonio Blázquez, reminded her of a paternal figure, a Yugoslavian national hero, who rode a white horse during the war.
‘The horse, so present in our lands and in important interventions by artists such as Jannis Kounellis in 1969, promoted the idea of carrying out this project as a tribute to the surrendered hero’.
