ADEL ABDESSEMED
Constantine, Algeria, 1971. lives and works in Paris.
These works, which show a strong physical presence, contain an intense spiritual dimension expressed through concepts such as freedom and joy of life despite the fact that a lot of the projects are about subjects such as violence, tragedy and death.
The poetic and political languages are intermingled in works such as Jouer la Flute a work where the artist shows a naked imam playing a melody in front of the camera, or in works such as Habibi, where a huge skeleton is seen flying being propelled by a motor of a plane; the presence of death on a disproportionate scale.
The extreme physical appearance of the skeleton is therefore faced with the infinite lightness of floating in the air.
