Physical experience, as a way of reactivating memory and stimulating awareness, is what Jeppe Hein generates with his project \u201cModified Social Benches\u201d. The eleven \u201cimpossible\u201d<\/em> benches located in the forest act as a disruptive element within an idyllic landscape that invites contemplation, observation, and meditation.<\/p>\nMost of the \u201cModified Social Benches\u201d offer a place to sit and a backrest to lean on. However, unlike conventional benches, they consist of elongated, curved seating lines that rise or fall sharply, featuring high arches, sharp bends, or long legs. They invite people to take an active role, not only by using the benches, but also by expanding the possibilities for social interaction that a bench can offer.<\/p>\n
Their unconventional forms not only provide an opportunity to relax, but also encourage conversation among visitors, giving the work an active and social character.<\/p>\n
These benches invite people to interact, play, and connect. They act as catalysts for empathy, dialogue, and understanding, qualities that we urgently need in times like these.<\/p>\n<\/div>
